1. Scope and privacy at a glance
Meritwright LLC, a Texas limited liability company, provides this notice for Meritwright Vault Desktop. It covers the Windows desktop product available through the Microsoft Store and the planned macOS edition for the Mac App Store. It does not cover Meritwright Vault Mobile or other Meritwright products. It describes the Windows edition's current local-data practices; the macOS edition's practices will be reviewed before its release.
- The app accesses and processes the personal information and files you choose to put in your vault. Local-only processing does not mean the app handles no personal information.
- Ordinary vault use is local-only. Vault content is not uploaded to Meritwright or a cloud service.
- No separate Meritwright account, cloud synchronization, advertising, activity tracking, or remote recovery service is provided.
- You control backups and exports. Store purchases, support emails, and software you independently use have separate privacy considerations.
The corporate Privacy Policy separately covers Meritwright.com and company email.
2. Information you choose to enter
The vault can contain personal and household records about identity, insurance, your home or vehicles, taxes, finances, legal matters, health, education, and family. Depending on what you add, records may contain sensitive information about you or another person. You choose the files, descriptions, notes, dates, and categories to retain.
The app accesses selected documents to import, check, organize, search, display, and export them at your request. File names, document details, and related notes are part of local processing. Importing a file is not an upload to Meritwright. Only add information you are entitled to store or use.
Local settings and security information support vault access and operation, including preferences, backup status, and failed-unlock attempt information. These are not an advertising profile or a remote account.
3. How local processing works
Vault records and imported files are protected in encrypted storage on your computer. Your passphrase controls access. The app reads information locally while you unlock and use it so you can organize, view, or retrieve your records.
Meritwright does not receive vault content, document metadata, passphrases, or decrypted files through ordinary app use. The desktop app does not send automated usage analytics, crash reports, remote file scans, or background vault uploads to Meritwright. It does not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
The vault has no Meritwright cloud storage or automatic synchronization. Its local settings and access protections are not advertising trackers. Store purchases use your Microsoft or Apple account, not a separate Meritwright activation account or license server.
4. What may leave the device
- Exports and files you open elsewhere. An exported or decrypted file is outside the vault's protection. Another app, printer, or recipient may process it when you choose to open, print, or share it.
- Backup and storage destinations. An encrypted backup package is a separate file saved to the destination you choose. If you save it to a cloud-synced folder, such as one managed by Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox, that provider may upload it automatically under your settings. You may also upload the package yourself. Vault Desktop does not initiate or control the provider's cloud transfer.
- Store and operating-system services. Microsoft, Apple, your operating system, security software, or other software you independently use may process connection, device, or diagnostic information under their own settings and policies.
- Web visits and support. Opening a store, website, or email service connects to that provider. Websites may receive your IP address and browser information. Meritwright receives only what you choose to send when contacting us, rather than automatic access to your vault.
Meritwright.com uses hosting and measurement services described in the corporate Privacy Policy. Visiting the website is separate from using the local vault; those services are not built-in analytics for Vault Desktop.
5. Backups and recovery
You can create encrypted backup packages containing protected records, notes, settings, and files, and choose where to save them. The active vault remains local, and exporting a backup package does not upload it by itself. A cloud service may upload the separate package automatically if you save it in a synchronized folder under your settings, or you may upload it manually. Keep the passphrase used to create each backup. Changing the current vault passphrase does not update backup files already saved elsewhere. Check a backup before relying on it and protect its storage location.
Meritwright does not hold a recovery copy of your vault or passphrase and cannot recover a forgotten vault passphrase. Store restoration reinstalls the app, not your private records. Recovering a workspace requires your own compatible backup and its passphrase. Restoring a backup can replace local data; review the confirmation and preserve anything you still need first.
Ordinary exported documents are different from encrypted vault backups and must be protected separately. If you use a third-party backup or cloud service, its access, retention, and deletion settings also matter.
6. Retention and deletion
Local records remain until you remove them, erase the vault, or the device or application profile removes its data. Use the app's erase-local-vault control when you intend to remove the protected workspace. Do not rely on uninstalling alone: local-data retention can depend on the edition, installation method, and choices made during removal.
Erasing the vault does not remove original source files, backups saved elsewhere, exports, printed copies, or copies kept by another service or recipient. Manage those separately. Deletion is not a guarantee of forensic erasure from a drive, system backup, or previous copy.
Deleting local data does not erase store purchase records or support correspondence. Microsoft and Apple manage store records under their own policies.
7. Marketplace and payment handling
The Microsoft Store manages Windows purchases and the Mac App Store manages macOS purchases. Each store handles payment, installation, account and device eligibility, restoration, applicable refunds, and updates under its policies. Windows and macOS purchases are separate. There is no separate Meritwright activation account or license server for storefront purchases.
Store and operating-system services may connect to complete purchases or licensing checks. Vault content, passphrases, document metadata, decrypted files, and backups are not sent through Store licensing. Store transaction information remains separate from the encrypted vault and its backups. Meritwright does not collect payments on this website or receive your full payment-card details through the app.
Microsoft and Apple independently process store account, payment, transaction, device, and licensing information. Store-provided sales or app-performance reporting is separate from vault content. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement and Apple App Store privacy information.
The Windows edition is available through the U.S. Microsoft Store; the macOS edition remains planned for the Mac App Store. Store-region eligibility is not continuous location tracking by the vault; the app does not use precise location or IP-location checks to enforce it.
8. Support and privacy requests
For product help, email support@meritwright.com with your app version, operating-system version, store used, and a description of the issue. Do not send vault files, encrypted backups, passphrases, identity documents, financial or medical records, store passwords, or payment-card details. Remove sensitive information from screenshots before sending them.
If you contact us, we receive your email address and the information in your message. Company email is provided through Microsoft 365. We use correspondence to respond, troubleshoot, address security concerns, and meet applicable legal obligations, retaining it only as reasonably needed for those purposes. Service providers may process correspondence on our behalf; disclosures may also be required by law. See the corporate Privacy Policy for more detail.
Send privacy requests to privacy@meritwright.com. Applicable rights depend on your circumstances and the law. We can address information held by Meritwright, but cannot remotely access, correct, or delete a local vault we do not possess. We may need to verify a request without asking for the vault or its passphrase.
9. Security and intended use
Encryption and local access controls reduce risk but cannot guarantee protection against every theft, loss, hardware failure, malware infection, or unauthorized disclosure. Protect your device, keep its software current, choose a strong passphrase, and maintain verified backups. Local processing and encryption do not by themselves establish compliance with a regulatory framework.
Vault Desktop is intended for adults organizing personal and household records, not as a child-directed service. Adults who store information about family members or other people are responsible for having authority to do so. The product does not provide legal, medical, or financial advice.
10. Changes and contact
We will update this notice if relevant practices change and revise the date above. The planned macOS edition and its final store disclosures will be reviewed before release. This notice does not imply that the macOS edition is already available.
